Beginnings Series

The Beginnings Series is the second series of handmade Suminagashi prints from Studio Eummae, and the first series with prints available for purchase. The Beginnings Series utilizes a high quality machine made Korean hanji calligraphy paper with red and black sumi ink. The paper has a smooth texture to the touch, with a soft but defined color palate. I have found this paper to be exceptionally strong and durable for both wet transfer techniques and as a backing paper, exhibiting great absorbency of ink and water, making it a perfect selection for Suminagashi prints. Each print is backed and stretched on a second sheet of Korean hanji paper using traditional Chinese wet-mounting techniques. Several prints from this series are included in my own personal collection. (Note: the actual paper color is a bright white tone, which the pictures do not capture well.)
